I had 1 contractor come by today and quoted me a French drain system, as well as raising the basement floor up 6 inches, with 3 sump pump's for a price tag of $16K, not including the repairs to the walls. 

He joined the Navy.

My thought is try to repair it or maybe install french doors.

We have also added french doors to the office, a paver patio outback, and some new finishes on cabinets.

The navy is charging roughly 1400 for a one bed one bath near the bases. my mortgage would be around $3100 dollars with my VA home loan.

Specifically,- Is older basement water tight or needs French drains and sump pump installed?

The kitchen is full stocked with many items to make just about anything including a turkey. 3 coffee makers (2 Keurig and a drip) plus a french press. 

Very much looking forward to the Navy Yards development, and expand my search to Germantown and Brewerstown as well.
