In my area (Catskills), listing on Airbnb is FAR more popular than VRBO, but it also depends on where guests are coming from.

@Thomas Polise installed one in one of his short-term rentals in the Catskills.

@Dawn Vacek I also just joined BP (after a couple weeks of lurking and reading the forums) -- and I've been curious about upstate NY, particularly the Catskills region.

Have you looked at options in the Catskills?

I see several pieces of land that fit the bill in Sullivan county on the Catskills craigslist. 

I AirBnB a property in the Catskills and definitely make more than I would if I were renting it out on a year lease, though there is definitely a difference between the Catskills and Hudson Valley in that respect (my place is out of commuting range).

Seconding the astronomical increase in buyer demand here as well in Northern Weschester, as well as in  rural traditional vacation areas such as the catskills and Vermont.

WE are investing in the Catskills and finding it very interesting.

There are plenty of beautiful towns within 90 minutes of NYC in the Catskills area where you can live amongst nature and at a fraction of the cost.

Can anybody recommend a real estate attorney in or near the Catskills area (specifically Phoenicia/Chichester).
