There seems to be a relatively large amount of duplexes built in that area, though I'm not sure that you're going to capture the young professional working in RTP that you want to live in your house.

In order to capture equity you may want to look at purchasing a distressed asset with a hard money loan, then refinancing out in 6 months instead of purchasing with a VA loan.
