Unfortunately, these opinions are often flawed, or just rants or attacks.

Essentially, this one IRS auditor uncovered a vast tax dodge where the grandparents were running several million dollars through shell corporations set up and owned by children and grand children, paying zero taxes along the way with deliberate obfuscations, magic hand waving and smoke.  

More factors than I can list here; your due diligence process will take at least a month and you will uncover more things as you go down the list.  

I'm now researching methods to uncover my own deals (direct marketing etc.), but I'm curious to know what methods have been most effective for experienced rehabbers in the area.So do you: Use wholesalers?

You have to know it inside and out, every detail, and every flaw.  

As we would suspect a defect is any flaw, imperfection of lacking.  

Second, research...im sure most of your questions have already been asked so search the BP site or simply google what your looking for...Third, reach out to individuals....sent them a private message, or email them but make is simply and clear what your are looking for.Don't worry now about setting up an investment company....you most likely cannot own any RE in the US until you've moved and have some landed status so until then just read and learn whats out there....and finally you wont really know what you like and enjoy until you start getting your hands dirty....experience will uncover your treasure!

This is clearly a bad relationship which is not working and which has some fundamental flaws.

This is only what has been discovered thus far, who knows what else is hidden, or uncovered. 

After an inspection on a property some serious issues were uncovered that would of blown my set budget of 30K when I did the walk through before putting an offer on it.
