I would look at joining the trades(electrician, pipe fitter) especially if you could get on the traveling circuit working at nuclear plants.

After uploading my resume, I got a call from a mortgage company about possibly filling one of their loan officer positions.

Curious how many are still seeing applicants who have been able to qualify for higher "rents" that may now be impacted as they'll resume paying on those student loans?

You need a credit and income resume to show you can pay the payments on a mortgage.

Build a personal resume for yourself: with your strengths , Fico credit scores and background (assuming that you are clean of anything bad that someone wouldn't want to find… ) with a good record. 

If I'm already working at a company and I sense something isn't quite right, I start getting ready to vote with my feet by updating my resume and getting my prospect list of potential employers ready.

As @Jay Hinrichs pointed out, the sky didn't fall, it wasn't the apocalypse, and I might remind that at same time there was nuclear attack drills at all schools because same time we were knee deep into the cold war.
