From visual inspection, it appears to be somewhat common in my area, a lot of homes built in 1920s, 30s and 40s. 

The third i use as a visual map for my driving for dollars to classify properties roughly into ABCD catagories all of which can be done relatively quickly from a laptop. using beacon.gis and google earth. hope this helps i haven't come up with a better way yet but if i do ill let you know.
