My parents owned the house and rented it to a roommate and me.

Or have roommates that pay you.

My wife and I rent with 3 roommates. our total rent is 675.

And even then I'd still have to share the same kitchen and living room with potential tenant roommates.

I rented to tenants in roommate situations over the years.

@Jeannette Tang Hey Jeannette, If you are unable to find a duplex or triplex or fourplex to House Hack, you could also buy a 4 or 5 bedroom house and have roommates too. 

Hey y'all, I'll make this shortI have a property that I own & live in with some roommates, I've recently had a new roommate move in a few months ago and she's been amazing.

You can do this in a single family home as well, but you can rent by the room with roommates. 

One tenant and his girlfriend reached out to me about their roommate (all have been renting from me for quite some time without issue) and asked if there was a way to basically kick the 3rd roommate out. 

Its a HUGE challenge renting out that many individual rooms..... you are basically trying to find 6 compatible room mates.
