I reached out to a carpenter buddy to help me rehab a little rental that fell into my lap. 

Trying to go straight at an experienced investor without any background knowledge is going to make it almost impossible unless you have some life long buddy who is doing it and willing to invest his or her time into you. 

So, you start tying them up and pawning them off onto your best buddies you want to see stress out while they go through yet another miserable rehab. 

One problem I had with airbnb is that a legitimate member who had been verified would rent for their buddies and the buddies weren't reputable or verified.

Plenty of deals on the south side, but make sure you're carrying if you're going to look at a new 'opportunity', and the buddy system is a must.
