Sometimes they forget to tell you that many tenants in Detroit don't pay (depending on the property manager skill and the type of tenant) - but taxes are very high in the city and so is insurance. 

When I'm driving and see a property I may be interested in learning more about, I text myself the address or a picture.

The reality is the opposite - if it's not in writing then the PMC doesn't have to provide the service or can charge extra for it!

Not that I plan to live in or even visit the US anytime soon, but I don't want to deal with winter-related issues like heating, de-winterizing a home etc. 

This is a straightforward process that we’ve followed to consistently deliver high-performance properties, and it does not require secrets or gurus.

As to the quandary posed by the OP: The root of the issue is that it basically sucks to be an RE investor these days.
