Remind them of key aspect of the rental including income and credit  requirements before you even show.

Personally, I prefer docusign and I pay for the premium version- ease of use and I don't need email reminders etc. 

I'd get in touch and remind fiancé that you don't care where he/she lives; he/she still owes and he/she will still get sued for the rent if not paid as agreed. 

@billbrandt Thanks for the reminder on state taxes -- I'm selling my house in Florida so was assuming there isn't any state taxes.

I cannot see myself going that route, but understanding the motivations of others, recognizing the duplicitous, and false pretenses, does actually remind, in a sobering way, that the world is not as virtuous as I would like to believe.
