If you replaced the majority of the system, or integral parts of the system (i.e. a new motor) then you capitalize and depreciate the costs.

They're great if you want to add a switch or if you have an existing switch in a inconvenient location without having to fish wires and repair drywall etc.The switches and dimmers are ~$60-$100 depending on the load and the Pico wireless control is ~$45-$60 including wall mount, plus installation.
