Aside from that, your plan would have the front door opening directly into great room which would basically create a hallway directly through the room, and limit furniture placement.

It doesn't have to have all your furniture, just a bed a table and a chair will do, a place to cook and prepare food, food stored, a change of clothes in the closet, soap in the bathroom with a towel.

My uncle even wants him to throw in the furniture to have it be available as a furnished rental.Because of this, the guy also knows someone that is selling a multi-unit place, and since my uncle is maintenance man for a bunch of people he knows many of the landlords in the area.
