If the choice is homeless or your situation most people would go with your rental as a better option.

They are homeless, but not jobless.

Look at your city's 311 service, it's public data and will have hundreds of reports such as abandoned lots, homeless activity, high grass, etc.. all reported by other neighbors.Majority of the time this is what cities utilize to determine code violations/enforcement, so if you request that list, you'll be ahead.

So I figured my "one thing" would be to help homeless Veterans find good homes through the HUD-VASH program.

There are local housing groups that partner with section 8 to help homeless veterans, single mothers, etc.

I have 2 examples of recent homes that I have talked with the owner on one (and inspected the property with my contractor) and the other one I called Building & Safety and actually talked with the guy who posted the sign.With the one I inspected, the owner had tenants that did not pay for 9 months and the Sheriff recommended that they have the property "Condemned" then the Sheriff can force them out, otherwise they would have to go through the motions of the court (which are in the tenants favor in OR).The other one that I talked with Building & Safety about was "Condemned" because there was a homeless person living in the home (with the owners permission) without electricity or trash pick-up...as you can imagine the trash piled up and as far as safety they had candles for light which was not safe so they "Condemned" the home basically for the same reason, eviction.Bottom line is you need to do your due diligence.

She can go to court, but if this is some homeless lady without an ID and no money, what is she going to do?

This will be unfortunate as it will lead to the homelessness the alt left were trying to stop.

It's quite a shock I'm not homeless to be honest.
