Other low desert cities may pass regulations, but have yet to do so. 29 Palms just passed an ordinance allowing it, and part of the push was to join the economy created by STR's as the neighboring cities have already been taking advantage of it.Joshua Tree is a different kind of city (different from neighboring Yucca Valley, which has more of a suburb feel and 29 Palms, which is a military town).

It is the price we pay to live in a desert where the water is imported from other locations.

With the north entrance to the national park along and the solitude visitors come to the desert for, we think 29 Palms has real potential.Hoping this forum will provide us with both perspectives in support of a profitable venture in 29 Palms or any cautionary tales and/or general words of wisdom for those who have experience in the area. 

I am new to real estate although I own my home in Palm Springs CA, I also have a home in the High Desert area of CA.

Obviously the main concern here is getting involved into a large loan, jobs drying out, and my park becoming a deserted island. 

My friends & I used to go out to the desert camping all the time back in the day.

So I am thinking the affordable parts of CA (Palm Desert, Palmdale, etc) may be a good choice.

East Nashville is soo hot it's a desert.

A lot of these properties will be vacant land in the desert, most will not be worth the time.
