.- We have busy but well paying jobs and don't like to spend time in building sweat equity (BRRR, flip), so will take a slightly low maintenance approach and buy relatively newer properties in B class neighborhoods and use property management for day-to-day operations.Goal:- To get to $10K/month net profits with real-estate (today's currency) in 15 years when we plan to retire.

Alternative strategies: Are there techniques or approaches better suited to markets like this where rents are so low relative to property prices?

Having just spent the last 5 days touring Portugal its apparent this move that Clayton and his wife made has yet again been to their benefit at the cost of their investors.This is hardly any kind of hardship on them..

There is no, or very little, current benefit - there is no cash flow.

Is it to build up assets, is it to make additional income, is it to reduce your monthly housing spend and save more money, is it tax breaks/benefits? 

I understand equity and cash-flow are related, but what I mean is that I don't need the cash flow right now as much as I'd like to build a strong portfolio that can cash flow even more later on.I've owned a single-family rental for 4 years, but on mulitple fronts I felt like I've done a poor job self-managing it, so this Fall I picked up the Turners' book on managing rentals and that's what led me here to Bigger Pockets online.

If you wait until it’s a rental, you might be able to depreciate the remodel costs over time, which could be a great tax benefit. 

As you move up the scale to higher prices, you get more benefits/services.
