I am not so sure I agree with that notion.  

From living in Houston, I have this notion that closer to the city center is best but this may not be the case for San Antonio.

As much as a landlord thinks rent ought to be a tenants top priority if you are faced with a bunch of legal bills because a family member has some issue with the simple fact is events can conspire to derail that notion or desire. 

I was acting on the notion that if I find a deal, then the buyer would be no problem if you do in fact have a good deal.

Brokers promote the notion that everybody should  diversify.

As someone pointed out, cash out refi's are not a taxable event because you are borrowing the money, not earning it.But get away from the notion that income will not be taxed, it will get you in trouble.
