For this reason I would highly recommend looking at multifamily greater than 5 units (that's the commercial lenders threshold; below that your income and job would be a factor).I am constantly looking in the Atlanta area, and although it might be hard to find a multifamily for ~$366k (the $110k / 30% -->typical amount down), you could always partner or participate in a syndication (crowdfunding).

Additional costs and magnified frustration with lenders’ requirements compete with the near-impossibility of having the required buyers’ walk-through of an empty house three days prior to their closing on it.I can only assume the new 3-day rule was set by somebody who has not participated in many residential closings.

My reasoning is pretty easy to follow- 1) Many of the rest of the world's central banks are lowering rates in fact some are going negative.  2) Inflation is currently a non-factor and is expected to be until 2018 given the continuing rout in commodity prices I don't see that turning around any time soon. 3) Labor participation rates are at long term lows.

As such, you can within the 401k have multiple individual participant accounts - one for you and one for your wife - assuming your wife is a documented employee of the business.You could not roll a Roth IRA into such a 401k, but I think you mentioned that your funds were in a traditional IRA.With the 401k, there are still proscribed methods for documenting and bookkeeping so as to independently value your account and that of your wife, but the ability to combine the funds for investments is much easier than in the IRA realm.
