I did move back with my mother in the meantime to save up some money and buy a second home for my two-year-old daughter and I.

I be got to pay my mother 550 a/month for 5 years or 38000!

I was raised around people who are small minded and believed in living pay check to paycheck no father figure no mother no one to teach me how to save and use my finances.

I work with a few ER Docs and Nurses that are in the real estate game as well!

After failing to find a suitable multi-family that had workable numbers we started looking at properties with guest house / "mother-in-law" suite potential and were pleasantly surprised with the options...especially with some vision.  

My mother and myself have recently got the rental bug and are looking to cash out on a current property of ours.

Basically saying only MOTHER NATURE knows what will happen when it comes to flooding and just because a property is in or out of a floodplain or more likely flood map doesn't mean that the property could never flood.

There is only a little over $3k left (a significant amount to me, but not enough worth trying to take him to court).The odd part of this situation and where my question arises is that his mother is offering to pay what's left under the auspicious that I will not tell him she did so.

If/When I get deployed, I will more than likely give power of attorney to my mother so that she will be able to resolve any complicated issues that may arise.

I’ve been interested in long term rental property investing for a while now and have worked out a plan of action that I wanted to get some feedback on.My wife and I would like to buy and rehab a property that has an “extra” guest/mother in law house on the property we could live in for the first year in order to take advantage of the easier funding on a 203(k) loan while renting out the on-site guest house as an STR before potentially transitioning to a longer term rental when we are ready to move out.
