Here's one of my own examples: I had a house that was in great shape but had a late 50's bathroom, complete with late 50's false tile (plastic) all over the bathroom, including the shower.

A good hotel quality curtain with a non-plastic liner have a higher-end look at an inexpensive price. 

My painter used PPG Breakthrough on our kitchen remodel-it is amazing; like a plasticized finish.

You are supposed to put on a space suit, wear a respirator, and place plastic down on the ground before scraping.

The kitchen is at least 10 years old and is beginning to degrade, countertops peeling away and plastic peeling away from cabinets.

Or even the nice plastic stuff.

Cheap door hardware, cheap HVAC and water heaters, cheap plastic part faucets and the like. 

Plastic interior could almost be hosed out if necessary.

The advantage to doing this is they are a peel and stick installation (over a plastic underlayment) and can be easily cut to size.  

The bottom plate plastic connector stripped and the plate couldn’t be reattached.
