I know a lot of Chicago investors are here too; but if you were in my spot would you recommend Chicago as prices are too high and I have never been to the city moving next year.

That's the sweet spot in most average priced places.  

In part because the sink is under the window which to me seems like a natural spot for it. 

If not in the exact spot you want to be, but at least the outskirts.

Then there’s city regulations—some places heavily restrict short-term rentals, so you’ve got to check the rules.If you find the right spot and automate stuff (guest communication, cleaning, etc.), it can be profitable.

Since you are right out of residency with a good job and not married and no family, you are in a unique spot because you have flexibility right.

It could cause a low spot where things slow down and then it all compounds until there is a clog.

I have a bit of a soft spot for the area as a UF grad, and I still come back to the area every year or two. 

The best investors can spot opportunities quickly because they know the landscape inside and out.
