A 4-plex would be ideal and you could play around with doing 1 long-term, 1 mid-term, and 1 short-term, plus you, if it works on your area to upgrade your income.

The property that I have, my family owns is not currently an Airbnb or a short term rental.  

Currently, we manage approximately 40 short- and mid-term rentals, in addition to a few long-term properties.

Also, banks normally only lend for holiday homes, not for rental properties but a holiday home can mostly be a short-term rental or become one later.5.
