If you understand the concepts at a deeper level than the books/lectures themselves, you'll feel more confident and fare better during the test. 

In the first lecture alone I think I learned more than I did reading many of the investing and development books out there.

Or, go to your local REI, I see you're in Memphis so I would guess you have at least one big one there, and ask the club operator if they ever have an appraiser come in to do a lecture.
