Unfortunately we as a society have come to fear holding ourselves and others responsible to a higher standard.

You are in the right place, absorb as much as you can and don't let fear hold you back.

Fear of poverty ! 

Sometimes landlords don't raise rents for years on fear of losing good paying tenants.

I would second the "introduce, calm fears that everything will change, and don't change anything unless necessary".  

I changed my job and increased my income to overcome that fear.

We love to sell fear in America.

This leads me to my fear and my questions. 

It seems pretty clear to me that the only people I’d be selling these lower end houses to would be other investors and my fear is that all I’d really be doing is working for wages in the end which defeats the purpose of taking the risk to begin with (I could be wrong).
