Everyone seems to think there's all this vacant desert for Vegas to expand into (sort of like Phoenix to the west) but much of the land around Vegas is BLM owned or even conserved and cannot be developed so getting additional BLM land released for auction to develop is a slow process.

You have to know YOUR reason for wanting earthquake.I sell earthquake insurance at AAA here's what I have seen:- the closer you are to the fault line (Los Angeles/Northridge area, Palm Desert), the less likely people buy earthquake insurance because the cost is prohibitive unless they have large amount of equity in the house... or unless they are close or in retirement age- the further South you live: San Diego, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, the cheaper the earthquake CEA policy is.

Standard of living is so much better elsewhere.I'll happily pay taxes and live here, in my much larger than 900 sq/ft house that I paid just over $200K for, (my master bath has so much floor to ceiling travertine, you'd think you were in a Vegas hotel - far cry from a shack) where I have a dozen palm trees on my 1/4 acre yard with a pond, 365 day a year vegetable & herb garden, 300+ days a year of not just sunshine, but clear skies and shorts/t-shirt & flip-flops weather, beaches, snow, mountains, desert, forests and resort living lifestyle, (not even to mention the absurd income opportunities) than get paid to live in Washington.

the land boom from end of 1800s to mid 70s was huge.. think CA  millions of platted lots especially inland empire high desert.. same with AZ  NM   Texas.. and of course the mother of them all Florida.. some of this stuff never went anywhere this is were you see guys like landgeek and stuff troll tax sales and buy low sell on terms..
