This is not as far-fetched as it might seem — there is a precedent for mandates from the SEC for technology adoption.

The issue I see with this is the old housing does not really work with modern living, so such a renovation allows for an older house to be reinvented to better match modern needs.With that being said, current new duplex design should be solving alot of these issues. 

OR Gut the 1000 sq ft and change layout to modern SFH and rent it out or sell it.

I bought the lot 10+ years ago to prevent a slash-and-burn developer from getting it and putting a home that wasn't right for the historic neighborhood (it's not designated, modern homes look extremely out of place here).  

It looks like a modern-ish interior design, but that's not going to help with the morning commuter who just wants to zoom through your drive-through and get back on the road. 

Look for higher rent rents via non-traditional/modern rentals:- AIrbnb/STR-Leasing fully furnished-Rent by the room/Student hosuing-Assistance living, etc.

I have no idea if Zillow is accurate or not but more modern homes in the neighborhood are selling for $200-$300k so it may be a good rough estimate as I haven't had it properly appraised yet.

They find bad properties in great neighborhoods and bring them up to modern standards.
