Aaron,Check the lease to ensure nothing is stated regarding the time frame for you to show the property prior to the lease expiration. 

Surf, fish, dive, etc...so an inexpensive place in a random suburb somewhere is no good either. 

Their future home is not going to be available until then, they would be sleeping in a hotel, so the closing time frame was incredibly important to them.
