This contrasts with the fastest growing cities (Raleigh, Austin, Phoenix, Nashville, Dallas/Ft Worth, San Antonio, etc. - long list of fast growing cities) which may have less initial cash flow, but are likely to experience better cash flow over the holding period.

Target cities like Montreal and Nashville where there is a good supply of tourists and long-term rental rates are low enough for your business to be profitable.Be mindful of cities such as New York or Miami, whose municipal policies either don't allow short-term rentals or make it very difficult to host a property.

I am unfamiliar with the Palm Springs market, however I ran 2 STR in Nashville during our boom. 

First property is in Springfield Tn like 45mins from Nashville. 

Although, you may be right when it comes to the stock market... the opportunity in real estate is still at an all time high in the Nashville market.

Markets like Chicago, Nashville, Austin, Atlanta, Tampa, NYC, Colorado, LA, Reno, Orlando, Dallas etc..
