That’s what I would and have done in your similar situation. 

Apartments paid it out and came after me about it.Fortunately the tenant wasn't a huge problem and paid it back on the 1st (i told apartments they could just wait and get over it), but I could easily see it could have ended up more like your situation.

It’s all about solving problems and creating win-win situations.
