Before showing your house, bake cookies to give it a delicious smell that everyone loves or clean surfaces and  mop floors for a fresh, clean smell.Remember, first impressions are everything.

I drop that on dinner for my family.And probably the biggest non-math issue is 'image'. 

I went to a dinner many years ago in VT and met a delightful old guy seated next to me.

Yes it seems a bit to run off to a hotel,  I offered to pay for their dinner, but they are a family of 5 so that still will be expensive.
