You could tile the wall for a little more insurance, but my first step would be to make sure that NO curtains, shades, etc., be installed on that window.

You don’t want a hotel opening up next to your house any more than the neighbors you are doing this to.Neither would it be very nice to open up a whore house, crack house, or your own shade tree car mechanic business with 8 cars scattered on the front lawn.Let’s get real here and quit acting like this shouldn’t be a big deal to neighbors.

I think you could even paint the gutters a darker gray.  

Every holiday after will be a little darker for that niece. 

If you are going to paint it a color, brown or darker grey would be better.

The darker the color the higher the ratio is.
