Hi all, Looks for some high level info related to Accessory Dwelling Unit possibilities and requirements for those in the Sevier County, Sevierville, TN and Smoky Mountains area.

So I'm looking for a way to lower my housing costs with this plan.The plan is to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in my basement, essentially turning my home into a duplex.

The limitation is that we're restricted to a total of 1500 sq ft in accessory units that can be distributed over multiple units. 

The Accessory Structure detached cannot be a dwelling, and the Guest Cottage can be a dwelling but only unpaid, cannot be used for short-term or long-term rental.

Over the course of a two years or, you're sitting on a 3-5 home portfolioOf course, multi-family properties are at a premium, and if you find a deal you may not be in the most desirable neighborhood, but rents are high even for modest accommodation.One very nice development specific to San Diego right now is how relaxed the zoning laws have become with regard to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU's).

San Mateo to be exact.I'm trying to find out more information about San Mateo County and what homeowners can do to potentially add an ADU or accessory dwelling unit.

Also, I know HomeReady allows you to use gross rent from the ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) to help qualify for the mortgage as well, I'm not 100% sure about the HomePossible loan.  

I want to give it a little more time but still very much in the market for an above garage or accessory dwelling unit set up.

You may also be able to find a home that has an accessory dwelling unit as well, if you are going to be living there.
