Large scale planters might work but they're expensive would be more maintenance in the long run (much harder to keep container plants healthy)

I probably would trim the bushes or replace them with some nice boxwoods and hostas, along with a planter or two of flowers on the patio.

You can spray a fresh coat of black on the iron railing and add a matching planter on the stoop.
