They are in need of major rehab, but there are right on the main intersection in a small town.  

I put some at major shopping center entrances, major intersections and at major road entrances to some of my targeted neighborhoods.Is there any particular placement or certain things that seem to prompt people to take more or less of your signs?  

Not the best approach.All paths have intersections through the forest to the other side.

I grew up in Kansas City which is located at the intersection of the Missouri and Kansas rivers.

I'm a total newbie, but one way that works is noticing signs on intersection posts while driving. 

This summer, I have a new job and am fortunately approved for up to $375 for a conventional loan and $425 HOA loan.After looking for over a year I am finally under contract on a a triplex in north east park hill at the intersection of MLK & Leydon.
