Check the perimeter of the building for holes and fill them with steel wool, expanding foam, etc.

The carpeting was older, but a very good quality wool, and in fine condition.

Leave it for a night and in morning just vacuum your wool carpet thoroughly.

That said you can keep the curtains over the window area even when it is open so the cats don't stare at each other. there are small pressure rods you can put in the window with light cotton curtains on them.  

I use Sherwin Williams too, either Wool Skein or Popular Gray, depending on the house.

I'm going to see tomorrow if I can use steel wool to salvage some solid wood oak cabinets that are not in bad condition.

(I can still see Mom out there in her long wool coat, those ridiculous zip-up rubber boots with the fake fur on them...and oh yes, the scarf tied on her head...shoveling as hard as any man every could!!)

Kind of what Clayton is trying to pull saying he wasn't the one pulling the wool over people's eyes.

Also go seal all cracks/holes on the exterior with steel wool and caulk.
