Yep, different opinions generate diversity. 

I've found that my experiences living elsewhere have helped me understand how different areas of the country work (prices, rents, culture, opportunities, etc). 

Like the "Prince of Bel Aire", you'd be paying a bit to live there as well.Valley Center - really nice area, but diverse.

In addition, the quality of PM companies can be pretty bad (just as in any market), and the language & cultural barrier can be a real challenge in you managing them.

In the summer months especially, I think Barcelona can compete with any city for vibrancy, aliveness, culture, and quality of life.

Big business and labor unions around SF are driving a smear campaign to stop Homesharing, but it is one of the oldest hospitality experiences in many countries & cultures, pre-dating hotels and boarding houses.

I concur with @Jay Y. about Engineering (very diverse and it can take you anywhere; technical or business) and of course I'm biased because I am an Engineer.  

I went to the first 4 or 5 monthly meetings and there was a very large and diverse crowd.

I would love to see a big difference be made to change the culture, but don't have alot of faith that will ever happen.

That aside, to go from being in a NYC environment, to a beach environment is a huge culture shock.
