Older homes have more risk, in my opinion, because things may not be level, you many not be able to use standard/bulk items, specialty items cost more, you need to create a space that matches the house period, and the potential pool of buyers who desire older homes is smaller (at least in our area).

Then use a Dremel/file/grinder to slowly grind away the material to match my template line....go slow and creep up on the fit with frequent test fitting.

This covers the exterior wooden trim of the window and makes it match the new windows now in the frames.

That being said, you need to understand and investigate and determine if they're a good match.   

It'd take a sizeable portfolio to match my income/benefits and it's going to be difficult to get funding to create that with out the steady income from corporate job.

I currently have a 401k with a small match through my job but I do not think that will be sufficient for my retirement goals.

Also, just make sure they know the process so you can make sure they are a good match.
