I currently use greatschools and citydata for demographics, crime, school district reviews, median incomes, median home values, etc.

Only because of the school district you'd be in which is not the greatest the city has to offer. 

The key is to buy top high school districts, over fix, screen renters for school aged kids who will stay to run their entire family through the same schools.
