Talk to landlords and other house hackers in your area and see what they’ve done or what they’re doing that makes their house hack successful.

There are other strategies that will cashflow sooner though (rent by the room, STR, MTR).There are plenty of house hackers in Colorado Springs that are covering their living expenses by house hacking.

You want to make sure your lender:Has worked with house hackers before; the rules change depending on what loan type you use and how many units you purchase.

Thanks, @Marissa Carroll  That is what I was wondering because I had a similar conversation with USAA but was not sure if that was what the savvy house hackers out there were doing or if it was what USAA was recommending (not knowing the intricacies of the house hack).

Find yourself an agent that focuses on house hackers and follow their guidance, then speak to a lender and see what you are qualified for.
