My husband and I own and self manage 4 properties with 19 units.

Their concept is not new and has been around for ages with people renting rooms in college towns and more expensive markets (NYC, LA) however this is a centralized more hands off management approach to self managing by letting them do all the heavy lifting for you which allows you to scale in less time so yes the concept definitely works and even better with their technology behind it.

I really think that the biggest pros and cons depends on YOUR goalsI self manage my properties with the help of a VA and I like that I can be hands off now that my VA is trained.

Are you self employed or work a W2 job?

There are turnkey companies or platforms like Roofstock that assist investors in doing so or you can contact property management companies or look for investor friendly real estate agents in that market to assist you.  

Are you good with self managing?

A lot of MTR investors use PMs but a lot also self manage as it is not nearly as time consuming as an STR.
