I do have a feeling that since these inherited tenants had 3 cats and a rabbit, that I may have to seal the floor with something like Kilz before having some option for flooring done.

While 1911 is not terribly old at this end of the country, in Saskatoon it must be among the older houses in-town.When you say it has been renovated, has the building envelope been insulated and air-sealed?

@Kyle DeSimoneHi Kyle,Writing a letter will take time and the family has so much to handle right now that it may get put aside.It might be more in your benefit to find out the name and phone of a the relative that's handling things, and go visit them in person (as quickly as possible).Offer an easy quick solution as well as condolences.You may have to visit with more than one person to seal the deal.

She just didn’t want to be the person that caused them to have to leave so I bought it with the added stipulation they could have up to 6 months to find another place at the current rent- that sealed the deal/sale so you can use this to your advantage as well and  in my case, I explained everything as you did.

@Nick Seginowich I don’t know what the energy code is like where you are looking at the house, but pulling a permit for a full re-hab may trigger updating the insulation, air sealing, windows, etc to a higher efficiency (which can be costly).I would make sure to do your due diligence before pulling the trigger
