Ask an accounting advisor if theirs any benefits to one or the other, but I haven't found anything significant beyond if theres a lawsuit, the LLC's state laws can be involved. 

Both you and your family members should meet with a lending attorney who understands lending law in your state.  

It might be against the law to repair vehicles or have them in the yard, on the grass, etc.

So read up on Dodd Frank, usury law in each state you planning to lend and that state's lending license requirements.
