You have the room to make it work, but like you said, it will look awkward due to lack of headroom from the door to the ceiling.  

FYI the property has a 2BD/1BA (with a spare room that could be an awkward 3rd bedroom) down and a 1BD/1BA up laundry in downstairs only, both kitchens are functional but could use a slight upgrade and carpet needs replaced/wood floors need touched up.
