I'm surprised at the responses here, and think there could possibly be confusion and an assumption that might be created in the responses.To provide a based answer, my question to @Zoe Brennan is, are you working on the investment opportunity with your time as well? 

Surprisingly, the “how” beats the “who” any day.

I'm surprised anyone is making money in California from str based on prices, supply, interest rates.

I am not surprised it took longer than 6 months.

Given the current market, I'd be surprised if he can get a bank to lend 65%.

Need to be an accredited investor as well.A bit surprised there isn’t more on BP about these guys, which I’d say does cause me a bit of pause.

So, so it's not real surprising to see some of these results.... sigh

I’m surprised that in itself isn’t viewed as a red flag. 

EDUCATE YOURSELF - yes, it will take time, but will lead to a selection that better meets your expectations & avoids potentially costly surprises!

The biggest cost variables are structural surprises, electrical/plumbing overhauls, and environmental hazards (asbestos, lead, etc.).
