In retrospect, wouldn't sticking around in California RE (as you got in the 1970's) been your best move?

In retrospect we used up all our cash flow margin and then some with our rental estimates, so be careful.

I am guilty over the years of drawing a line in the sand also, and in retrospect, from the viewpoint of decades later, I was wasting time, emotional energy, and relationships. 

They knew all along it was a loser but just went along for the ride, etc....In retrospect, they may even remember all the winners as really their great ideas (they gave the "green light" after all; the losers were really your ideas, etc).
