Things that make jobs competitive: leftover materials from another job; mobilization in that general area already for a different job; economy of scale (one guy does 1000 homes, one guy does 10) purchasing power, specialized equipment already on hand (i.e. boring machinery, tapping equipment, etc), quality of material (if contractor is providing material).

The assumption here is that your asset has a shelf life, and will need to be replaced (like machinery in a factory).

If you are getting a lot up in the Oakland hills on a tiny street keep in mind the logistics of getting machinery up there to develop.

Assuming it is not destroying anything but some concrete and lawn, and that you can get machinery in, I would almost certainly dig and replace.
