I guess you could fur it out and sheath it then tile.

Plus the guy put up an wall in my basement and is using it as a nursery (just furring strips and hard board but a partition none the less)I really do not want anything to do with this guy.

This picture isn't exactly what you are talking about, but it does show furring over problem areas.  

Fur out the studs to eliminate space between the back of the cement board and the studsDrill four 3/16 in. holes in the tiles covering the cement board with a diamond bit, positioning the holes so that they would be covered by the pedestal sink.

@Bruce Clark  You could use steel studs or hat channel as furring and shoot them to the wall.

We then covered it up with 1.5" poly iso R8.5 foam board, furred out all the penetrations with 2x4's, installed the new doors and windows, flashed them, and installed the Hardie in a rain screen format such as the picture below.

We don't have any kids, but do have a fur baby named Thor!
