I agree with Elaine and eliminate the French doors and opt for windows.

I think your best and maybe only solution is to put in a french drain across the yard with a large catch basin at the low point.

Having been in the Navy and to some places where hygiene and food safety is more of a suggestion than a rule, I think it's something of a cultural thing.

If issue hasn't been resolved then should still be a warranty issue.They may need French drains to route water away from house and better grading.Might also need to water proof the below grade wall.
