I would guess that a signal booster or connection went bad and just needs to be replaced, I'm not sure why the cable technician didn't trouble shoot while he was there since that's what they always do in my area?

Alternatively, you could also look into a wifi signal booster in both homes OR you could also get more than one router for the same connection (Verizon does this)
