My pet peeve was when they convinced people to max out thier credit cards and take on a bunch of new debt through new credit cards in order to just pay for the "tuition".

An average home and a cabin up north (popular amongst Michiganders), comfortable eating allowances and private school tuition for my children.

They paid for my college tuition in full, they own their house free and clear in one of the most expensive housing market in North America and decent retirement savings.

It was a bit of a gamble up front because I paid for it myself entirely while pretty much all of my classmates had tuition reimbursement through their employers (for instance, a few of my classmates worked for Disney,  who pay their full-time employees 75% of their education costs.

I also have friends who couldn't go to the college that they wanted to or study the field that they wanted to because they couldn't afford tuition/living expenses while going to school.
