Get an idea of the configurations and cabinet sizes.  18"', 24" 36", etc.Research the Kitchen Triangle ( sink, stove, fridge)Then, get on craigslist and search for "Kitchen Cabinets" or "Used Cabinets" you can pick up a whole kitchen for about a thousand bucks including appliances.You can put a dishwasher within a few feet of the sink.

I would look at proximity to I-85 and related to that, drive time to the Triangle - on both fronts, the shorter the better.
